(From Tralfaz-archives.com)
Produced by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, Sergio et. al. play through the songs of the Beatles, Bacharach/David, Gilberto Gil and a few originals. The sound is the Tijuana Brass with a little more of a South American feel to the beat. The cover has "the sixties" written all over the place. The colors, the knit dresses, the ties and shades. It all adds up to a fine time. Grab a drink and let's relax in the shade with this one.

In Brasil, his home country, Sergio Mendes, believe it or not, was, up to very recently time, considered a traitor of the "real" brazilian music (oh, sh*t). He was accused of being all kinds of negative things in music, such as "a smart ass that took the works of great brazilian composers and diluted 'em in a kind of loungy pap for the north-american audiences, becoming very rich in the process... The folks that talk this kind of stupidity, never tell the people that Sergio was the man that open lots of doors in the american market for those "theft" composers, no telling the hundreds of brazilian musicians that he introduced to the US music scene, and that made a carrer of themselves after this. The fact is, yes, Sergio always had an incredible commercial sense, but his musicality and talent to pick somebody's work and made it his own brazilian way is undeniable. Just listen the swing of "The Frog" (track 04) and tell me if this is anything but brazilian music at its best... Saravá Sérgio!
