Ko-Wreck Technique - Ko-Wrecktion EP

Ko-Wreck Technique - Ko-Wrecktion EP
Label - Choc. Industries/Warp
Released - 1999
Style - Hip-Hop, Abstract, Turntablism, Electronic, IDM

* Thanks for the sweet find, Rich @ RTX!

Tracklist:
1 I Can’t Understand You (4:42)
2 Metro Dade (4:46)
3 Metro Dade (Plaid mix) (6:05)
4 Behavior (4:31)
5 Take Me Away (Four Track Mix) (3:59)

Combining the talents of Skam's push button objects and DMC world champion DJ Craze, Ko-Wreck Technique brings funky IDM abstraction and flashy turntable wizardry together. Plaid also does an excellent remix.

Random review from discogs:
Being a major fan of DJ Craze, and also Push Button Objects helps me like this one a lot.

If I had to compare it to something... i would have to say DJ Krush mixed with a idm tinge. Mellow triphop backgrounds, with idm-ified beats

The Plaid remix is outstanding... possibly my fave from the ep. Its definately worth picking up tho :)

Seefeel - Polyfusia

Seefeel - Polyfusia
Label - Astralwerks/Too Pure

Released - 1994
Style - Abstract, Ambient, Electronic, Shoegazer

Tracklist:
1 More Like Space (8:45)
2 Time To Find Me (Come Inside) (5:07)
3 Come Alive (5:06)
4 Blue Easy Sleep (4:42)
5 Plainsong (7:02)
6 Moodswing (5:45)
7 Minky Starshine (10:43)
8 Time To Find Me (AFX Fast Mix) (7:35)
9 Time To Find Me (AFX Slow Mix) (9:33)
10 Plainsong (Sine Bubble Embossed Dub) (8:46)

(review from AMG)
Mark Clifford (Disjecta, Woodenspoon) combines two earlier Seefeel EPs for domestic re-release on the Astralwerks label. First are four tracks from More Like Space, followed by five more from Pure, Impure. The latter (and slightly more interesting) EP is put mostly in the hands of Clifford's peers, recruiting the remixing and engineering talent of Mark Van Hoen (Locust), Sine Bubble, and Richard James (Aphex Twin), who contributes two very respectful and similar-sounding mixes to the track "Time to Find Me" (both his "AFX Fast Mix" and "AFX Slow Mix" are must-haves for collectors). All in all, Polyfusia is one of the group's more guitar-oriented albums, though still heavily garnished with atonal keyboard ambience and minimalist loops, due in equal parts to Clifford's own aesthetics and the reworkings on the latter half of the CD. Sometimes the minimal and repetitive elements of the tracks test the listener's patience, but it's one of the things that sets it apart from other bands in the same genre. Seefeel trusts that the sound is interesting enough as is, without cramming too much into each measure. It breathes steadily enough; it's music for a dream you can't understand yet, but you know it means something important. ~ Keir Langley, All Music Guide

Andrea Parker - Kiss My Arp

Andrea Parker - Kiss My Arp
Label - Mo' Wax
Released - 1999
Style - Electro, IDM, Abstract, Downtempo

Another old CD of mine that was misplaced years ago and recently re-emerged. Andrea Parker has been one of my favorite (and most underrated) DJs ever since I caught the few electro sets she dropped on the now defunct Groovetech Radio. I received a promo copy of this when I worked at the radio station, and I remember loving it to death.

Upon sober listening, I must inform you to SKIP tracks 1 and 3 ('The Unknown' and 'Breaking The Code') if, like me, you prefer things Instrumental. The rest of the tunes are just great. My personal top picks from this album are tracks 4, 5, 6, & 7. Amazing stuff!

Perhaps I should post those Andrea Parker sets? If anyone cares, leave a comment and I'll post those. They are rare and I haven't seen them anywhere - not to mention they are extraordinary. Like a cross between classic Electro, Miami Bass and IDM. Her mixing is killer.

Review from The History of Rock & Roll:
Andrea Parker is a classically trained cellist, a disc jockey and, last but not least, an electronic composer with a penchant for analog synthesizers who collaborated with Philip Glass and Steve Reich. She started recording under monikers such as Two Sandwiches Short Of A Lunchbox, and mentored by producer David Morley. After recording Melodious Thunk (Mo Wax, 1995) in an ambient drum'n'bass vein, the following single The Rocking Chair (Mo Wax, 1996) was more like a concert for 40-piece orchestra (reminiscent of Albinoni's adagio) and creative samples than a hip-hop track. The brutal techno of Ballbreaker (1997) established her credentials for punchy dance-music and completed the formative period.

The twelve tracks of Kiss My Arp (Mo Wax, 1999) better highlight her passion for David Sylvian's decadent/exotic elegance and Dead Can Dance's eerie/gothic atmospheres. Parker mixes string orchestrations, hip-hop percussion and heavy bass to create music that is highly seductive. The minimalistic Elements of Style (a Steve Reich-ian concerto of virulent jazzy drums, Caribbean percussions, standup bass), the suspenseful voodoobilly of Going Nowhere (ghostly noises, wild dissonances, tribal drumming) and the ritual music of Clutching At Straws (mournful cello, delicate harp, martial drums and tambourines, eerie electronic noises, metronomic percussions, and a dejected litany), three elaborate compositions that bridge several different genres, coexist with the instrumental Kraftwerk-ian ballets of In Two Minds and Some Other Level, with the pounding syncopated dance music of Breaking The Code, and with the ethereal cantillation, the futuristic polyrhythms and the baroque orchestration of The Unknown (Enya + Bjork + Richard Strauss). The orchestra has rarely been used in such an effective way by a popular singer. Rather than merely enhancing the melody, it provides an ominous emotional counterweight to Parker's delicate vocals. The other significant component, the rhythm, is channeled through terrible schizoid spasms.

Herbie Hancock - The Spook Who Sat By The Door OST [1973]

Herbie Hancock - The Spook Who Sat By The Door OST
Label - UAR
Released - 1973
Style - Jazz, Funk, Breaks, Blaxploitation, Weird, Abstract, Soundtrack, Herbie!

This one is really strange. When I copped this, some of the tracks sounded like they were recorded straight off a TV speaker or something. So I put the tracks through some audio processing to even out the levels, and now it sounds much better. Just an FYI if a couple of the tracks sound different... This soundtrack is just too cool not to clean up and share! Some of Herbie's best (and most obscure) work to date, in my opinion. I'm a freak for anything Herbie or Miles from the '69 to '78 period, so I couldn't pass this up. Hopefully others agree...

(from Dusty Groove):
A legendary soundtrack by the great Herbie Hancock -- super-rare, and super-dope, and super-funky! The film itself is a really righteous tale about a disenchanted Vietnam vet who infiltrates the CIA, learns its tricks, and uses them to start the coming revolution -- and Herbie's score for the film is every bit as bold and powerful as the movie itself! The music's got loads and loads of heavy keyboards -- sometimes distorted and noisy, as on some of Herbie's own work of the time -- sometimes smooth and sweet, with a tasty Fender Rhodes sound -- but always tight, jazzy, and funky! The soundtrack does a good job of including background noises, sound effects, and snippets of dialogue from the film -- and there's also a few mysterious bonus bits, which seem to come from other sources, but which fit in well with the sound of the overall album! The whole thing makes for an ultra-cool listening experience that's served up in a number of dimensions -- and titles include "The Big Rip Off", "Revenge", "At The Lounge", "Training Day", "The Stick Up", and "It Begins".

*tracklisting is a bit weird, so bear with me...

V/A - Gomma Audio No. 1

V/A - Gomma Audio No. 1
Label - Shadow
Released - 2001
Style - Electronic, Leftfield, House, Abstract, Downtempo, Lee Library

Notes: compilation of tracks from the Gomma Label 1999-2001

(review from ink19.com)
Some really big names are really digging what Germany's Gomma label is doing. Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Les Rhythmes Digitales have raised their swords among the legion of the label's fans. In what can be considered a mixed blessing, Shadow has released some of Gomma's 1999-2001 tracks.

Gomma Audio No. 1 is most definitely an aural, dance adventure. This is music that isn't afraid to take risks, and the label distinguishes itself admirably for refusing the cliché. In the cluttered minefield of electronica's myriad genres, the music on this disc oftentimes defies categorization. However, in that stew of creativity, sometimes one comes up with gristle. Sometimes the synth effects are too '80s, like in Headman's "It's Rough," or too overbearing, which almost ruins the deep house groove of Leroy Hanghofer's "Pin." And Ike Yard's "N.C.R." is so choppy, you'd think the track had been ravaged by a Benihana chef.

The rest, however, is a spicy jambalaya of fine, edgy music that makes one realize why such big names as those previously mentioned are into Gomma. Munk has two great tracks on here; Ike Steigner's "Bela Breaks" is a heartbeat away from cardiac arrest; and Spenzer's "The Box" closes out this session with some menacing downtempo that leaves you wanting more.

Tracklisting:
1 Headman - It Rough (5:48)
2 Ike Yard - N.C.R. (Funkstörung Version) (4:59)
3 Protein - Aspik (4:18)

9 Palermo King - Murtu (4:32)

Piero Piccioni - Colpo Rovente (The Original Complete Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Label - Easy Tempo
Released - 1970
Style - Electronic, Psychedelic, Jazz, Abstract, Easy Listening, Soundtrack, Library

(from Dusty Groove)
One of the best Italian scores we've heard in ages! The soundtrack is one of the best-ever by the great Piero Piccioni -- and it's a swirling mix of organ riffs, soulful tenor, and throbbing basslines. Some tracks burst out with a heavy groovy sound, while others hang back in a pensive jazzy kind of way. As with the other Easy Tempo reissues, this one's got some incredible extra material -- for a total of 27 great tracks that we've already played again and again and again. Titles include "Kintabu", "Blackflower", "Colpo Rovente", "Easy Dreamer", "Chinatown Drugs", and "LSD".

Piero Umiliani - Musica Elettronica Vol. 1

Piero Umiliani - Musica Elettronica Vol. 1
Label - Easy Tempo
Released - ? (compiles material from 60s/70s/80s)
Style - abstract, breakbeat, Electronic, Funk, Jazz, Lee Library, Soundtrack

Notes from Dusty Groove:
Very groovy stuff from this mad Italian genius! The set features Umiliani getting a lot more experimental than usual, leaving behind his regular funky/easy bag for one that's a lot more tweaky and twonky, but still pretty darn groovy! Some of this stuff reminds us of tracks from the Raymond Scott Manhattan Research set -- as it's spare and bubbly, done in an older analogue style, with a good dose of humor thrown in to warm up the music a bit! Other tracks are funkier, if not in the rhythms, at least in the syncopated style of Umiliani's sounds and keyboard work. Very nice, and a key piece of the mad Umiliani puzzle! Titles include "Momento Ritmico", "Motore A Ioni", "Gadget", "New Experience", "Arabian Synthesizer", and "Officine Stellare".

Tracklisting:
1. Rapsodia Stellare
2. Momento Ritmico

Nino Nardini/Roger Roger - Jungle Obsession

Nino Nardini/Roger Roger - Jungle Obsession
Label - CML/Dare-Dare
Released - 1971/2000
Style - Electronic/Abstract/Jazz/Funk/Breakbeat/Soundtrack/Library

Notes: All tracks published by Creasound Ltd except "Tropical" published by Chappell recorded music library. First released in 1971 (non commercially).

Another awesome compilation of some of the most killerest early-70s library funk/grooves you've never heard before. So so good.

Random review from somewhere:
Nino Nardini's Jungle Obsession is an album of production music recorded in 1971 and released for public consumption almost 30 years later. As the title suggests, all tracks have an exotic bent -- think Martin Denny; however, the '70s production adds a more solid bass-and-drums bottom end. Some tracks are more mellow and feature loads of strings while others have primitive electronics, vibes, wah guitar and organ. Great tracks are "Shere Khan" a lush, string-laden track with an underlying sense of danger, and "Jungle Mystery" which has a, well... um, a MYSTERIOUS vibe to it.

Tracklisting:
1 Jungle Obsession (3:37)
2 Murmuring Leaves (2:48)
3 Mowgli (2:34)
4 Bagheera (2:15)
